why call IT 'agile'?

The first value in the Agile Manifesto is “valueing individuals and interactions over processes and tools.” Organizations and individuals are continuously interacting through continuously communicating. That makes professionalizing and optimizing communication comfort and ability critical. Agility is not so much about ‘doing agile’ as it is about ‘being agile'. Being agile is  about nimbly and flexibly processing and responding to volatile, complex and often ambiguous situations and people: one conversation and one e-mail at a time.

Working with me will make you better aware of, and able to influence, your interpersonal habits and those of other. This will make you more skillful, resilient and at ease in interpersonal challenges, including acting appropriately in conflict prone situations without undue stress. Relating better to yourself will lead to relating better to colleagues, subordinates superiors, customers and vendors. As you change you - and by extension your organization - more consistently achieve desired results working with others. That is good for you and good for business. And that is why I call it agile communication.

MASTERING THE MEDIUM (SYNTAX AND SEMANTICS)

empowering self-confidence and accelerating fluency

Language is the medium of communication. Being comfortable in and being understood in this medium are critical to achieving your desired outcomes.Solidifying and expanding this comfort with me has the double benefit of improving English and inspiring out of the box thinking and acting about communication.

For me language training is about getting you to do what you need to do to improve, empower your self-confidence, and easily move  towards fluency. I think of this as a journey. A journey of exploring using the words and making the sentences you need to say what you want to say - in ways that make sense to you. To do this my first job is to stimulate a new way of looking at and thinking about language. This means transforming your relationship to language and language learning so that you learn easily and enjoy it. On this journey into language you will learn what you need from the inside out; starting from your needs to the language technology available to do that. This means that the learning process starts with you in your lived professional and personal. I will pick you up where you are and empower you at eye-level instead of imprisoning you in abstract rules and regulations.

The way I train (see below) means that people at different starting ability levels can participate together (school English is minimum requirement). This avoids the level-ghettoizing locking people into same level echo chambers. It allows the lower level participants to learn from the higher level ones and for the higher level ones to strengthen their ability by helping the lower level participants. The added benefit: it enables larger groups (12 max.) and, thereby, easier organization and scheduling.

  • This two day seminar is available as a two full-days, four half-days, or any combination thereof.
  • The first day is also available as video-driven e-learning, reducing on-site training to one day or two half days.
  •  All levels can participate as long as they have at least ‘school English’ or an equivalent.

ACTIONABLE PRINCIPLES OF COMMUNICATION

minimizing resistance and maximizing agile collaboration

Communicating well is fundamental to careers and organization success. How people talk to each other determines how well organizations function, how sustainable their leaders are, how customers feel about products and services, and how individually successful and satisfied employees are. This is because what we talk about, how we talk about it, and who we invite into the conversation determines what will or won't happen.

This makes versatile communication a potential business critical competitive advantage. The advantage being better relationships with customers, colleagues, other cultures, and management. Better relationships pay out across the value chain because stakeholders appreciate and act on positive communication experiences. And such experiences determine who we buy from, who we want to work with, and how we think about products and services.

In this seminar you will explore and apply a collection of key communication to-dos distilled from the philosophy of language, psychology, politeness studies, and communication theory from the Palo Alto school to now. As a result you will optimize your communication habits in ways that will make you more thoughtful, comfortable, and effective communicating any content at any time. And it will help you help others give you what you need from communication.

There are two sides to these principles. The second often gets overlooked. They give you a toolkit and a strategy for dealing well with almost any communication challenge. And they are indispensable for you helping your conversation partners provide what is missing from their communication pattern lets you help others help themselves.

You will learn them by doing. This doing will let you feel the effects of your and other's conscious and unconscious habits. These felt insights will be your personal motivation to optimize your communication to more consistently act and respond in strengthening solution focused ways. By personalize them they will be authentic and fit your mission critical interpersonal challenges. By learning by doing you will go home having already transferred the knowing into authentic doing where you need it.

This is how I train groups and coach individuals to better communicate what they know, how they feel, and what they need done, in ways that others want to listen, understand and support. That makes participants more comfortable being a positive influence on themselves and others so that people others want to work with, support, buy from, and trust.

  • This two day seminar is available as a two full-days, four half-days, or any combination thereof.
  • The first day is also available as video-driven e-learning, reducing on-site training to one day or two half days.
  • Cross-silo/Cross-discipline groups enrich the process.
